The University of Utah's Department of Physics & Astronomy is committed to pursuing key science questions within an inclusive academic community, to training and diversifying the next generation of researchers, educators, and tech workforce leaders.
We offer two programs of study. Our doctoral program has been awarding Ph.D.s in Physics since 1899, and is currently training over 175 students in all areas of physics. Our MS in Physics-Quantum Computing (MSPQC) has been awarding degrees since 2020
The College of Science physics program equips you with what we know about our universe — theories on matter, the forces, space, and time — so you can reach into the unknown and answer the question… why?
UH physics faculty members serve on national peer-review panels to evaluate competitive research grants and edit prestigious scientific journals. Students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty interact to create a research-intensive atmosphere.
